										| European Nickel, the
										mining group, reported widened full-year
losses of £6.1 million, from £3 million
last time, but said it was close to
										beginning production of nickel and
bringing in revenues.  Placer Dome, the
gold miner, has agreed to a takeover
approach from Barrick Gold, after the
rival miner sweetened its offer to $10.4
billion (£6 billion). The move will make
										Barrick the world’s largest gold
										producer.

										Royal Dutch Shell,
the Anglo-Dutch oil group, agreed to
sell its service stations and other
										businesses in Uruguay, Paraguay and
										Colombia to Petrobras, the state-owned
Brazilian oil group, in a $140 million
(£80.5 million) deal.  Jo Malins, the insider dealing
										finance director of Cambrian
										Mining, the AIM-listed
company, has been stripped of his share
										option profits worth £69,000. | |
